About us

The "School of Astronomy" Center under the Kyiv Planetarium has existed for more than 15 years. Initially, the center was a study group of astronomy in which children studied the basics of astronomy and astronautics.
Today, it is a great center where classes for children and adults are held. The lessons are held by lecturer of the planetarium Dr. Gerasimenko Svitlana. The Center invites scientists from the Main Astronomical Observatory to hold thematic classes with our graduates and adults.
Since 2015, a group has been set up for preschoolers (from 5.5 years), where children in the playful, casual form are provided information about the nature of space.
Classes are held once a week on weekends. Groups are formed according to the age of children. You can choose a course in Ukrainian, English or Russian.
Students "Schools of Astronomy" take part in all the activities that the planetarium organizes, participate in observations, go on tours.

Feedback from our students

In the school of astronomy, I learned a lot of exiting things about space and how everything works, about constellations, planets, and so on. At first it was interesting to study the solar system and other stuff, but in the end - although it was pretty tough - I now know how the universe works. I really enjoyed studying there, and most importantly, it was very interesting! - Rudenko Yaroslav -

When I was 5 years old, I, as any kid, was interested in everything new and unknown. Once I saw a picture of our solar system in the 11th grade astronomy textbook that my elder brother used to study. I decided to draw my own "version". Then, by sheer chance, my parents learned there was some drawing contest in the planetarium and sent there this picture. I was among the winners in that contest and received a subscription for studying at the school of astronomy, where Svetlana Vladimirovna gave lessons. That is how at the age of 5 I became a "schoolboy" overnight, moreover, having to attend classes every weekend early in the morning. However, all my "classmates" were all racing to the classroom, as they knew that something incredibly interesting was waiting for us every time. I remember the times when TV channels came to film and interview us, when we later appeared in the news on TV, when there were articles about us published in different magazines - at such times we felt so cool and grown-up! My favorite topic was “Exoplanets”, because I believe that we are not the alone in the Universe! - Gerasimenko Andriy -

The school of astronomy is a very interesting place where you can learn astronomical literacy. I’ve been studying for 5 years so far. The information is presented in an interesting way and is easily perceived. - Bondarenko Vlad -
